Philips Okot Private African Safaris was founded with a singular purpose: to offer private African journeys guided by lived experience, trusted relationships, and thoughtful execution. We work with a limited number of clients each year to ensure every journey is designed and delivered with care, discretion, and depth. This is not mass-market travel. It is personal, intentional, and relationship-driven.
THE FOUNDER — A LIFE LIVED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE JOURNEY
Philips Okot was born and raised in Africa, where he spent over a decade working as a professional safari driver and guide. During those years, he developed an intimate understanding of Africa’s landscapes, wildlife, cultures, and most importantly the people who make safe, meaningful travel possible. In 2019, Philips moved to the United States and went on to build a multimillion-dollar electrical services company, Okot Electric LLC. That experience sharpened his understanding of
operational excellence, accountability, and the expectations of high-trust clients. Philips Okot is a husband and father of four. He takes his children to Africa every year, believing that exposure to culture, heritage, and nature builds understanding, respect, and perspective and he wants to provide that same access to others through journeys designed with care and trusted guidance. With perspective shaped by both African and American experiences, Philips recognized a gap within the safari industry one defined not by access, but by trust. Philips Okot Private African Safaris exists to bridge that gap.
THE GAP WE SAW — TRUST IS THE MISSING ELEMENT
One defining moment occurred while Philips was working in a customer’s home in the United States. The client noticed his accent and asked where he was from. When Philips shared that he was from Uganda, the client expressed a long-held desire to visit Africa followed immediately by concern about safety.
Philips explained what years on the ground had already taught him: while, like anywhere, some areas require caution, safety in Africa often comes down to knowing the right people, having trusted guidance, and moving through the region with experience and care.
This conversation echoed what Philips had heard countless times during his years as a safari driver. The interest was always there. The hesitation was trust. That insight became foundational.
OUR PHILOSOPHY Access Comes from Relationships
Africa is not unsafe by default. It is misunderstood.
When journeys are designed by those who know the land, understand the cultures, and
maintain trusted local relationships, travel becomes calm, immersive, and deeply rewarding.
We believe:

Our role is to handle complexity quietly, so our clients can be present.
HOW WE WORK
We do not offer packages or public itineraries. Every journey is private, bespoke, designed from the ground up, and guided by experience and judgment. We intentionally work with a small number of clients each year to maintain the level of involvement and care our standards require. Not every inquiry proceeds by design.
